Hydropolis will be the world’s first luxury underwater hotel. It will include three elements: the land station, where guests will be welcomed, the connecting tunnel, which will transport people by train to the main area of the hotel, and the 220 suites within the submarine leisure complex. It is one of the largest contemporary construction projects in the world, covering an area of 260 hectares, about the size of London’s Hyde Park.

“Hydropolis is not a project; it’s a passion,” enthuses Joachim Hauser, the developer and designer of the hotel. His futuristic vision is about to take shape 20m below the surface of the Persian Gulf, just off the Jumeirah Beach coastline in Dubai.

Another step towards Green Dubai. A network of air-conditioned crossings and subways will not only keep diseases at bay but also enable public move around in hot weather depending less on vehicles.

The Dubai Road and Transport Authority will be linking up major buildings through air-conditioned walkways in some areas. These buildings will also be linked using covered walkways with main roads as well as Dubai Metro stations to increase pedestrian mobility.

“Green Roofs” for every building in Dubai

Dubai Municipality has embarked on an initiative called “Green Roofs” that aims to encourage people to grow plants on their rooftops. Municipality buildings will be the first to test out the concept before the initiative is implemented in a phased manner.

Dubai’s green buildings project about to be launched is considered important in reducing carbon emissions and in enhancing indoor environment and air. It also enhances the health of Dubai’s society and increases life expectancy of the buildings, as well as protecting the local eco system. Increased productivity is also expected. Economic support from different sectors is predicted.

Dubai Metro: World longest fully Automated Rail System

The Metro network will be fully integrated within the network operated by the Roads & Transport Authority (RTA), a body created in 2005. Routes will be organised around the backbone provided by the rail system. Taxi stations and park-and-ride facilities will be included in key Metro stations to further enhance the system’s role.

Ziggurat was unveiled at the recent Cityscape Dubai. It is by far the “funkiest” project ever envisioned. Ziggurat is an environmentally sustainable futuristic city housed inside a pyramid. The city will employ natural renewable energy resources of solar, wind and steam making it completely self-sustainable in energetic terms and supported by a carbon neutral system producing zero carbon dioxide emissions. The power of nature is going to be harnessed to support a million people in this city. The project is being undertaken by Dubai based environmental design company Timelinks.
