The tower’s architecture and engineering were performed by Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill of Chicago, with Adrian Smith as chief architect, and Bill Baker as chief structural engineer. The primary contractor was Samsung C&T of South Korea.

The total cost for the project was about US $1.5 billion; and for the entire “Downtown Dubai” development, US $20 billion. In March 2009, Mohamed Ali Alabbar, chairman of the project’s developer, Emaar Properties, said office space pricing at Burj Khalifa reached US $4,000 per sq ft (over US $43,000 per m2) and the Armani Residences, also in Burj Khalifa, sold for US $3,500 per sq ft (over US $37,500 per m2).

The opening of Burj Khalifa was held on 4 January 2010. The ceremony featured a display of 10,000 fireworks, light beams projected on and around the tower, and further sound, light and water effects. The celebratory lighting was designed by UK lighting designers Speirs and Major. Using the 868 powerful stroboscope lights that are integrated into the facade and spire of the tower, different lighting sequences were choreographed, together with more than 50 different combinations of the other effects.

The event began with a short film which depicted the story of Dubai and the evolution of Burj Khalifa. The displays of sound, light, water and fireworks followed. The portion of the show consisting of the various pyrotechnic, lighting, water and sound effects was divided into three. The first part was primarily a light and sound show, which took as its theme the link between desert flowers and the new tower, and was co-ordinated with the Dubai Fountain and pyrotechnics. The second portion, called ‘Heart Beat’, represented the construction of the tower in a dynamic light show with the help of 300 projectors which generated a shadow-like image of the tower. In the third act, sky tracers and space cannons enveloped the tower in a halo of white light, which expanded as the lighting rig on the spire activated.

Burj Khalifa is the Tallest building in world with 2717feet tall, located in Dubai. Construction began on 21st September 2004 with exterior of the building completed on October 1st, 2009. The Building officially opened on January 4th, 2010.

Burj Khalifa Tower is a part of the 490acres flagship development called Downtown Burj Khalifa (Downtown Burj Dubai prior to its launch) at Sheikh Zayed Road, Near Dubai’s main business district. The total cost for the Burj Khalifa project was about US$1.5 billion and for the entire new “Downtown Dubai”, US$20 billion.

Burj Khalifa consists of 160 habitable floors plus 46 maintenance levels in the spire and 2 parking levels in the basement. Top floor is at 621.3 m (2,038 ft).

Meraas Development, a new developer, has burst on the stage of property in Dubai with the announcement of its first-ever project worth Dh350 amazing and one that involves millions of dollars from the world’s tallest buildings – with varied microclimates and a mini-Manhattan.

Jumeirah Gardens will be fully integrated, mixed-use development project located in the old Satwa area west of Sheikh Zayed Road and flanked by Al Diyafa Street and Safa Park. The project aims to serve a population of 50,000 to 60,000 residents.

The announcement comes amid a global market rout that has broken investor confidence worldwide, but goes to show that Dubai is determined to continue with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
The development will redefine living in one of the most popular districts of Dubai, currently undergoing demolition to pave the way for the new project.

The project will comprise seven distinct areas, covering approximately 110 million square feet of land, including islands. One section will host Dubai Park, which is half the size of Safa Park.

The first phase of Jumeirah Gardens will cover about 820,000 square meters. It includes six major blocks of buildings with high, medium and low-office, retail and residential, two hotels and an area of high-end shopping.

Delivery of the first phase is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2011, with completion scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2013.

CEO of Meraas Development, Sina Al Kazim told Gulf News: “Every great city has a large park. London has its Hyde Park, New York has its Central Park. This will be Dubai Park. The park will be surrounded on all sides by residential apartments, duplexes, penthouses, villas and commercial buildings.

Meraas is planning at least eight landmark buildings in Jumeirah Gardens, one of Dubai, one of Park Avenue and Park Gate, which will have six buildings.

The islands are made up of East Bay and the coast, predominantly residential, but also include hotels and resorts.

Dubai is the largest city in the UAE. Abu Dhabi, Dubai borrow 10 billion U.S. dollars last month to help Dubai pay some of their debts.

Burj El Khalifa has 160 floors. The 158th floor will house the world’s highest mosque years. The world, aos swimming pool will be higher in the floor 76. An observation platform, sure to be popular among tourists, is on the floor 124.

Another highlight for tourists is 900 feet high at the source of the base of the tower, known as the world’s highest-performing aos source.

Dubai Fountain is the center piece of Downtown Burj Dubai located at the front of Burj Dubai. The Dubai fountain is one of the world’s tallest fountains, surpassing the Fountains of Bellagio at Las Vegas.

The Dubai fountains is 275 meters (902.275 ft) long, which is more than the length of two football fields. It is 25 % larger than the Fountains of Bellagio at Las Vegas.

The Dubai fountains can be seen from over 200 miles away up in space or horizontally if you have a clear line of sight. The fountains can shoot to the maximum height of 150 meters, which is equivalent to the 50-story building.

The Dubai fountain, designed by WET Design and developed by Emaar, can spray 22,000 gallons (83,000 liters) of water in the air at any moment. More than 6,600 lights and 25 colour projectors have been installed. The Dubai fountains project water in the air in many different combinations and patterns.The beam of light shining upward from the fountain can be seen from over 20 miles away, and is visible from space making it the brightest spot in the Middle East, and possibly in the entire world. The fountain lake fills the gap between the Dubai Mall, The palace hotel, Souk Al Bahar and The Address Downtown Burj Dubai.

The fountain performance starts at 6pm with performances every half-hour until 8pm. Between 8pm and 11pm, music-water displays occur every 20 minutes, there are 14 daily performances.

Dubai is not short of flash hotel chains, but the direction is in a league of its own. We stayed at the newest addition to the family, the Dubai Marina Management, to check how it compares with its sister spot Downtown Burj Dubai.


After spending a pleasant weekend in the downtown Burj Dubai Address a few months ago we thought we had found our favorite place in the city – a great environment, excellent service and one of the most beautiful pools in Dubai, not could fail to impress – fortunately, his younger sister, tucked in alongside Dubai Marina Mall, is as well prepared as you would expect any brother of that pedigree to be.

A reception scanning by Immaculate and well informed staff, carried some of the hot spots back navy – Mixed Rive Gauche drinks and dinners. Modern Art Covers runners, while high ceilings create one of the lobbyists airiest Navy – perfect for relaxing with friends and family.

The rooms, although they are quite compact, are beautifully decorated with elegant finish with the same reliability that make the brand what it is – large bathrooms, comfortable clothing and quality products, from toiletries for coffee.

After relaxing in the room, went downstairs for a drink in the mix, the bar’s signature hotel, which caters for lovers of grape and cocktail connoisseurs as easily, before going out to enjoy the views and sounds of Dubai Marina, eventually returning to our room comfortable to sleep one night in heaven.

The next morning, after breakfast restaurant, we headed to the third floor to check the spa and gym. A state of the art adventure with escalators buzzing among the guests of the spa and gym, this was by far the most impressive area of the hotel. Brightly stocked and visually inspiring, the gym is the kind of space that actually makes you want to work out.

The spa is equally impressive. We enjoy 80 minutes Balinese massage couples – there’s no better way to recover from a night – before checking out and reluctantly heading next to a ride by Dubai Marina Mall.

The Address Dubai Marina had much to live until they passed with flying colors. Competition should watch out.

Dubai – The architects agree on one thing: A landmark building is often the result of a few brilliant strokes of the pen. The stylized shape of the Eiffel Tower was ran this way, along with the spectacular Burj Al Arab hotel, which dominates the skyline of Dubai.

Both buildings in the headlines, each in his own time, and in December, the Burj Al Arab holds its first ten years. The structure, which resembles a giant billowing sail, has become one of the most significant milestones in the Gulf emirate. One of the most luxurious and expensive hotels in the world, but much more.

The hitherto unknown level of affluence of the building catapulted to fame a decade ago, turning what used to be a haven of Arabs in a meeting point for the rich and famous.

“There is a myth that surrounds the hotel. We never claimed to be a seven-star establishment, but we have gained that reputation,” said Heinrich Morio, General Manager of the Burj Al Arab.

Perhaps the hotel’s reputation comes from 202 duplex suites lavishly-appointed or the endless 22-karat gold plated surfaces. Adding to the impression of luxury is an unusually large staff of 1,500, whose job is to pamper guests. This equates to seven employees by visitors. Prices are definitely going through the roof – starting at around 2,800 dollars a night.

These features made the only hotel when it first opened. “We cater to world’s most demanding clients and the level of expectations is very high,” said Morio coming from Germany. Despite the global economic slowdown, the Burj al Arab has not lowered its prices and is very secretive, he added.

Access to the noble house of Arabian hospitality in Jumeirah Beach Road is not as simple as it seems and monitoring road tourists are simply prevented from walking through the entrance. Those without a reservation at one of the restaurants or in a room reserved for the evening are left on view at the 321 meter high space-age structure from the outside. Illustrious guests to a fleet of ten Rolls-Royce limousine driver is available for transport from the airport of the city.

The interior of this hotel is best described as sumptuous serenity with fountains in the lobby and all sorts of luxury accessories. The hotel belongs to the holding of Dubai, most of which is owned by the ruling Maktoum family. After about 40 years of oil wealth that decided to turn Dubai into a financial and magnet for tourists.

Before that could happen the emirate had to make a name for itself worldwide. The Burj Al Arab as a key part of this strategy. “The owners wanted to create the most beautiful, luxurious and beautiful hotel, the world has ever seen,” said the manager. A brief on this scale makes it easier for architects and designers to create shared features with only a handful of hotels worldwide.

One example is the pet department, where British-born Warren R Baverstock addresses many aquariums in the hotel. “I came to Dubai ten years ago while on the beach and watched the hotel was just delighted,” he said. Back then quickly decided to trade in northern Europe by the desert heat.

Much has changed in Dubai since the hotel opened its doors in December 1999. The metropolis has continued to grow and where the local population once played impromptu soccer matches next to the hotel, exclusive apartments and hotels have multiplied. However, the staff at the Burj Al Arab does not fear competition from new resorts and the spectacular new Palm Island.

Creation of the Dubai firm is no longer alone and in December this year is ready to be eclipsed by the new Burj Dubai, the tallest structure in the world projected to more than 160 plants.

The new hotel has been much speculation about its precise height – the official word is that it stands at over 800 meters – along with the opening date and scale of a proposed public celebrations to mark its creation. Investment costs are no secret and is well known in Dubai latter superlative cost structure around one billion dollars to build.

Burj-al-Arab Videos

The Trump International Hotel & Tower Dubai is a proposed skyscraper hotel at the trunk of the Palm Jumeirah in Dubai. It is a joint venture between the Trump Organization and Nakheel. Project was announced on October 5, 2005.

The 62 story hotel and residential building has an estimated cost of U.S. $600 million. The hotel is expected to be a 300-room, five-star hotel.

The original design featured a circular tower surrounded by four golden petals attached to the sides. However, this was rejected by Nakheel who later unveiled a new design which features a split linked tower with an innovative open core design that minimizes shadows. The tower will be constructed of stainless steel, glass and stone. Proposed amenities include exclusive access to a private beach and yacht club with tennis courts, gymnasium and fitness centre, stylized pools and gardens.

Trump International Hotel and Tower offers a luxury hotel, exclusive residences, boutique offices, an exclusive spa, swimming pool, fitness suite, resturants, luxury retail and full service business center. The tips of asymmetric towers resolve into a twin set of glazed peaks which incorporate the Pinnacle resturant and the Sky Bar where guests enjoy spectacular 360 views over Dubai, Gulf and the Crescent.

However, The Trump International Hotel and Tower project was cancelled by Nakheel in December 2008 as part of the impact felt by Dubai from the Global Economic Crisis.
