Dubai – The architects agree on one thing: A landmark building is often the result of a few brilliant strokes of the pen. The stylized shape of the Eiffel Tower was ran this way, along with the spectacular Burj Al Arab hotel, which dominates the skyline of Dubai.

Both buildings in the headlines, each in his own time, and in December, the Burj Al Arab holds its first ten years. The structure, which resembles a giant billowing sail, has become one of the most significant milestones in the Gulf emirate. One of the most luxurious and expensive hotels in the world, but much more.

The hitherto unknown level of affluence of the building catapulted to fame a decade ago, turning what used to be a haven of Arabs in a meeting point for the rich and famous.

“There is a myth that surrounds the hotel. We never claimed to be a seven-star establishment, but we have gained that reputation,” said Heinrich Morio, General Manager of the Burj Al Arab.

Perhaps the hotel’s reputation comes from 202 duplex suites lavishly-appointed or the endless 22-karat gold plated surfaces. Adding to the impression of luxury is an unusually large staff of 1,500, whose job is to pamper guests. This equates to seven employees by visitors. Prices are definitely going through the roof – starting at around 2,800 dollars a night.

These features made the only hotel when it first opened. “We cater to world’s most demanding clients and the level of expectations is very high,” said Morio coming from Germany. Despite the global economic slowdown, the Burj al Arab has not lowered its prices and is very secretive, he added.

Access to the noble house of Arabian hospitality in Jumeirah Beach Road is not as simple as it seems and monitoring road tourists are simply prevented from walking through the entrance. Those without a reservation at one of the restaurants or in a room reserved for the evening are left on view at the 321 meter high space-age structure from the outside. Illustrious guests to a fleet of ten Rolls-Royce limousine driver is available for transport from the airport of the city.

The interior of this hotel is best described as sumptuous serenity with fountains in the lobby and all sorts of luxury accessories. The hotel belongs to the holding of Dubai, most of which is owned by the ruling Maktoum family. After about 40 years of oil wealth that decided to turn Dubai into a financial and magnet for tourists.

Before that could happen the emirate had to make a name for itself worldwide. The Burj Al Arab as a key part of this strategy. “The owners wanted to create the most beautiful, luxurious and beautiful hotel, the world has ever seen,” said the manager. A brief on this scale makes it easier for architects and designers to create shared features with only a handful of hotels worldwide.

One example is the pet department, where British-born Warren R Baverstock addresses many aquariums in the hotel. “I came to Dubai ten years ago while on the beach and watched the hotel was just delighted,” he said. Back then quickly decided to trade in northern Europe by the desert heat.

Much has changed in Dubai since the hotel opened its doors in December 1999. The metropolis has continued to grow and where the local population once played impromptu soccer matches next to the hotel, exclusive apartments and hotels have multiplied. However, the staff at the Burj Al Arab does not fear competition from new resorts and the spectacular new Palm Island.

Creation of the Dubai firm is no longer alone and in December this year is ready to be eclipsed by the new Burj Dubai, the tallest structure in the world projected to more than 160 plants.

The new hotel has been much speculation about its precise height – the official word is that it stands at over 800 meters – along with the opening date and scale of a proposed public celebrations to mark its creation. Investment costs are no secret and is well known in Dubai latter superlative cost structure around one billion dollars to build.

Despite being one of Dubai’s newest hotels this spacious Downtown Burj Dubai property is already redefining city style in the emirate. Without the beachfront location of many of the city’s classiest gaffes it stands out with the superb views of the world’s tallest building. But this is one address that will not be overshadowed by the towering neighbor. Little touches like iPod docking stations and Plasma screen TVS are, of course, now standard. As is the use of the best quality furnishings and luxury touches. Certain suites have outside baths and this is one hotel that will appeal to business and leisure guests. As long as they’re happy to pay the premium.

02. Al Maha Resort

Rating: 5 star No. of Rooms: 40 Hotel Location: Al Maha Desert

Relaxation comes at a price. As one of the most expensive hotels in Dubai the Al Maha Resort is reserved for a select few, but those that can make the cut are safe in the knowledge of money well spent. The resort is a world class sanctuary set in 225 square kilometers of pristine desert landscape. Private plunge pools, couples therapy and the knowledge that there is not a traffic jam anywhere near by will relax you before your treatments begin.

03. Bab Al Shams

Rating: 5 star No. of Rooms: 113 Hotel Location: Next to Endurance Village

A cheaper but less exclusive alternative to Al Maha, Bab Al Shams is a luxury hotel in the middle of the dunes. This grid of low rise buildings made of pre-scratched, crumbling mock-sandstone is filled with hidden corridors and secret stairwells: rooms open directly onto the sands, while a swimming pool, spa and four restaurants cater to guests’ needs. The range of activities isn’t as extensive as at Al Maha (and mainly revolves around desert excursions), but there is a well-equipped children center, which should keep your ankle-biters entertained. At night, enjoy a sunset shisha at Al Sarab bar or try out the Al Hadheerah desert restaurant, which offers a Disneyfied Arabian experience complete with belly dancer, band and some fairly potent shisha.

The iconic Burj Al Arab is a representation of all that is opulent and extravagant about Dubai. It is an obvious choice and one that is likely to appear on worldwide lists of the most expensive and luxurious hotels. If you’re wondering what you get in a seven-star hotel think personal butlers, massive suites, discretion, privacy, pillow menus, breathtaking Jumeirah views and..well, the list goes on really. It is often said that the decoration might not be to everybody’s tastes but there is no denying that a stay in the Burj is one of unprecedented dedication to pleasing the high-rolling guest.

05. Dar Al Maysaf: Madinat Jumeirah

Nobody would argue that the Madinat Jumeirah hotels of Mina A’Salam and Al Qasr offer an exceptional level of service and quality but for the absolute pinnacle of the complex the discerning traveler knows that Dar Al Maysaf is impossible to beat. The name means “summer house” in Arabic and these large villas have a real feeling of seclusion and intimacy. They can be reached here by taking a short abra ride to elsewhere in the hotel and after you’ve found your room taking a dip in a private pool or eat in one of the mini-complex’s private restaurants.

Not a patch on its Singaporean sister in terms of history but still pretty striking and certainly one of a kind, Raffles Dubai has already become something of an iconic building. Especially for the less tourist-heavy area it inhabits. Leave Dubai Airport and cross Garhoud Bridge and you will be presented with the giant pyramid that is the Raffles Hotel. Adjoined to the Egyptology themed Wafi mall Raffles is one of the most expensive hotels in Dubai and the pyramid’s peak is one of the city’s most exclusive clubs.

Burj Tower

Burj is an Arabic word which means ‘Tower’. So, Burj Dubai means ‘Dubai Tower’ or ‘Tower of Dubai’. Its exact height hasn’t been disclosed but it is suggested that it will be over 700 meters tall. Its design was influenced by the six petal desert flower as well as incorporating patterns found within Islamic architecture.

The Palm Islands

The Palm Islands also known as the Palm Dubai and The Palms. The Palm Islands are the three man-made islands in the world. These Palm Islands are built in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The Palm islands are considered as the Eighth Wonder of the World.
These islands are built in a shape of a date palm tree and consist of a trunk, a crown with fronds, and are surrounded by a crescent island that acts as a breakwater.

Hydropolis

Hydropolis is the world’s first luxury underwater hotel. It is under construction. Joachim Hauser is the developer and designer of the hotel. He said that Hydropolis is not a project. It is a passion. It has already been compared to both a jellyfish and a sea turtle.
The land on which this project Hydropolis is being built belongs to His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai.

Rotating Skyscrappers

The Arab city which has amazing and impressive buildings like palm-shaped islands and the sail-shaped hotel is now going to build a rotating skyscraper.
Rotating Skyscraper is an eclectic skyline and it is a 30-story apartment tower that revolves on its base. The tower will use the Persian Gulf’s abundant sunshine to power the building’s slow rotation that brings it full circle once a week.

Dubai Sports City

Dubai Sports City is the world’s first purpose-built sports city. Dubai Sports city will incorporate state-of-the-art sporting venues and academies along with residential and commercial developments.

Dubailand is a part of Dubai Holding. Dubailand is an entertainment complex which is under development in Dubai. Dubailand is a tourism, real estate, hospitality, entertainment, leisure and retail mega project.
Development of Dubailand is divided into six theme worlds. The development is expected to be a full featured city. It is being managed by Dubai Government’s Dubai Development and Investment Authority and is being built to secure Dubai as the premier tourist destination for the Middle East.

Presidential Suite, Kempinski Hotel, Dubai

The Kempinski hotel’s Presidential Suite at Mall of the Emirates in Dubai gives guests a different kind of off-piste experience. The large rooms, private terrace and two large bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms big enough for a king.

Atlantis, the Palm is a resort on the Palm Jumeirah in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It is a joint venture between Kerzner International Limited and Istithmar PSJC and was completed in September 2008. The architectural design is based heavily on the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas.

The resort consists of two towers linked by a bridge, with a total of approximately two thousand rooms. There are two Palm Jumeirah Monorail stations connecting the resort to the main section of the Palm Jumeirah islands. The resort also includes a water theme park (160,000 square meters), a conference center, and 20,000 square feet (1,900 m2) of retail space.

The resort contains a giant open-air tank with 65,000 fish, stingrays and other sea creatures and a dolphinarium with more than two dozen bottlenose dolphins flown in, amid controversy, from the Solomon Islands.

The Burj Al Arab has been hailed as one of the most luxurious hotels in the world.
