Dubai International Airport was World’s 2nd Busiest Airport in 2023

According to the OAG, Dubai Internation Airport (DXB) was the 2nd most world’s busiest airport in 2023. With 56 million+ seats and 5% more Airline capacity compared to 2019, Dubai International Airport achieve the massive milestone.

UK based OAG, records data for the busiest airports in the world, announced its list of Busiest Airports in the World 2023, powered by Global Airline Schedule Data. According to the report, with more than 61 million seats Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport (ATL) was the world’s most busiest airport in 2023. Dubai followed with 56 million seats, Tokyo Internation Airport was third and London Heathrow comes on 4th place.

The list shows that DXB – Dubai International Airport retain its second position compared to last year. However, there was 25% increase recorded in the number of seats from year 2022. On the otherhand, ATL – Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport’s seats number increases 12% from last year.

Tokyo International Airport (HND) jumps to 3rd position from the 4th last year. However, there was 4% decrease in airline capacity compare to year 2019. Similarly, London Heathrow (LHR) shows 2% dicrease in airline capacity. London Heathrow (LHR) ranked 4th in the list from 7th position in year 2022.

Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) shown the biggest dicrease from 6th position in 2022 to 9th position this year with 14% dicrease in the airline capacity. Guangzhou Airport (CAN) is the only new entrance to the list and shows great progress by jumping from 16th position to 10th position.

Busiest Airline Routes

The report also shows that the flights between Singapore – Kuala Lumpur was the busiest international route in 2023. There was 50% increase recoreded in the number of seats for the route. Same route was ranked 3rd in 2022.

The flights between Seoul (South Korea) to Osaka rankeed 4th and flight linking Seoul to Tokyo ranked 5th. Flights between London Heathrow to JFK jumped down from 4th to 8th position in 2023.
