Dubai Metro will be launched on September 9, but only with10 of the 29 stations planned, according to a senior official.

“We will begin underground operations as promised, but key will open 10 stations on the Red Line,” Mattar Al Tayer, chairman and chief executive of the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), was quoted as saying in a Gulf News report.

He said all Red Line stations will be launched next February.

But he said that the Green Line would open in June next year instead of March.

The Dubai Metro is 76 km long, has two lines – the Red Line and Green Line – and will, as the automated system the world’s largest driverless metro.

The service will start with 11 trains on the tracks that go up to 60 when the system is fully operational next year.
