1. The first tip is to divide your work among your house members. Get your kids involved in this activity as well.

2. Now, put your bigger stones first. Put the mattresses and cushion covers for a wash.

3. For the mattress, you would need to show it some sunlight for a couple of hours and then dust it away with some baking soda to make it fresh and free of infestation.

4. The furniture could be polished using a mix of a cup of olive oil with half a cup of lemon juice after you have dusted it with a plain cloth to bring in the shine it has lost in a while.

5. For your fridge, a diluted solution of vinegar and some baking soda could do wonders on both the stains and the smell. Try it to make your work easier.

6. For the containers in your kitchen that have a layer of dust accumulated and sticking, heat some water and add washing soda in it. Try cleaning your containers with the solution.

7. For the blinds, you could use an old sock and white vinegar to clean your home easily and without dirtying your home further. Wear the sock in hand and wipe off the dust after dipping your hand in a vinegar solution.

8. After you have taken care of the above tips and cleaned them all, go for your regular home cleaning to wipe the dust off the floors.

And there you are! A sparkling house, cleaned and waiting to be decorated for the upcoming event and celebration of Diwali.

Everyone aspires to give a new and different look to their homes, but with a hectic lifestyle and soaring prices of decorative items, we tend to curb that aspiration and compromise with our fancy ideas for decorations. However, during the celebration of the festival of lights, Diwali, we must spruce up our abode. Here are some decoration pointers that can come in handy without burning your pockets!

If you are a nature lover, there is no better way than to refresh the mood with some new greens in your house. Bring some plants as per the available space and surroundings. If the space is less or cramped then bonsais are a good substitute for the big huge plants. Flower bonsais and fruit bonsais, both are available in a huge variety.

Antique items
A mid-sized and metallic-finished statue placed on one side of the living room can be a show-stealer. However, it does not mean that you need to shell out a huge amount from your pocket to place such a distinguished item in your living room. These days many art pieces like statues, crystal bowls, a wooden carved shade, or a marble elephant can be purchased from décor stores without putting too much burden on your pocket.

Proper lighting in a house can re-energise while dull lighting can spoil the whole décor. It is of utmost importance to use new concepts like diffused lighting which should be used together with direct lighting to highlight the eminent places and décor items placed inside the home.

The walls of the house can be decorated with fabulous paintings and art prints. For these, there are many online stores available today, and it should not take much time to select a wonderful painting.
