EgyptAir – The Flag Carrier and the Largest Airline in Egypt

EgyptAir is the national flag carrier and the largest airline in Egypt. It operates from Cairo International Airport and serves more than 70 destinations in Africa, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. Inception of EgyptAir

EgyptAir was one of the very first airlines in the world, and as such, it was a pioneer in the airline business. It started business operations in May of 1932, and within a short period, it ascended to become the sixth biggest carrier in the world. It served routes from Egypt to Europe, the nearby territories, and the then British colonies in the Middle East, including Syria, Lebanon, Libya, and Tunisia. Journey Till Now

In 1991, it had to be partially privatised.

A new board of directors and a new management team were put in place. At this time, it also partnered with British Airways and Lufthansa to help them out of the financial problems they were facing. It also did a significant cost-cutting exercise, which reduced management staff and crew members. This led to the eventual layoff of many employees. The airline continued to have a hard time making profits and hence had to continue making cutbacks in personnel.

In 2006, it underwent yet another management change and a strategic plan. The new management was brought in from GECAS, and they implemented an Airbus fleet modernization program, ordering several new Boeing 777 – 200ERs and new Boeing 737 – 700s. Four more Boeing 777-300ERs were requested in 2010 to add to its fleet of Airbus aircraft.

It serves 67 destinations on several continents and flies to countries such as France, Germany, Belgium, Austria, Italy, the United Kingdom, and Greece.
