Advantages of becoming Digital Nomad in Dubai

If you are considering being a digital nomad in Dubai, here are 5 reasons why you should take the plunge.

1. Digital Nomad Visa

The United Arab Emirates has been rolling out its digital nomad visa to try and get more remote workers.

Obtaining the UAE digital nomad visa is relatively easy and allows you to stay in the UAE for up to a year at a time. The best part is that you can continue to renew your visa at the end of the 1 year period if you want.

These are the requirements for the Dubai digital nomad visa:

  • You must earn a minimum income of $60,000 per year
  • A passport with at least six months of validity
  • Proof of employment or company with a least a $60,000 salary
  • Travel insurance with good healthcare coverage

Not a lot of steps, right?

As long as you meet the criteria, you’ll find that the digital nomad visa is pretty easy to get. The cost for the digital nomad visa is about $600, which includes the application fee, premium medical insurance, and the Emirates ID.

The digital nomad visa allows you to live anywhere in the UAE, including Dubai. After submitting the application, you should expect to see a response within 5-7 business days.

2. Safety

Safety is important for digital nomads.

You are there to enjoy the country and the last thing you want to think about is safety concerns.

The good news is that Dubai is actually one of the safest middle eastern countries for remote workers and digital nomads in the world. The crime rate in Dubai is significantly lower than the surrounding Emirate states/cities and is significantly safer when comparing surrounding countries.

Dubai has stricter laws than many other countries, so you will need to be aware of them. But this creates a safe environment where digital nomads can enjoy themselves with the local culture and attractions.

3. Cost of Living

Just like Two Tickets Anywhere, digital nomads should look at cost of living in terms of value for money.

Dubai has a great cost of living when you look at what you are getting in return for your money.

Firstly, you can find great and modern apartments relatively cheaply. Being a digital nomad, you probably don’t want to commit to a long-term contract. Dubai has tons of short-term rentals, which you can find through places like Airbnb or a local real estate agent.

Expect to pay about $1,100 per month for a comfortable 1 bedroom apartment in the center.

What about other costs?

A meal at a normal restaurant will probably set you back between $8 to $12. Dubai has many classy restaurants, which cost about $20+ per meal.

Getting around the city is really easy. There are lots of local taxis available where you can expect to pay about $12 for a 15-minute trip.

As a digital nomad in Dubai, you could comfortably live for less than $2,500 USD per month.

4. Great Infrastructure

Dubai Diverse City

Dubai has been investing heavily in its infrastructure.

That means you will get fast wifi speeds and tons of coworking spaces to enhance your experience.

How fast is the wifi?

The average wifi internet speed in Dubai is about 118 Mbps. The average mobile data connection is about 87 Mbps. That’s pretty quick!

That means you won’t have to worry about connectivity for things like virtual meetings, online tools and even playing video games. Even mobile internet is really quick with excellent reliability throughout Dubai city and the UAE in general.

Dubai also has a ton of great coworking spaces and cafes to work from.

5. Culture & Diversity

Dubai is super diverse.

There are over 200 nationalities represented in Dubai, speaking over 300 different languages and dialects. That’s a lot!

The best thing is that you will constantly bump into different cultures with thousands of people from all over the world. With all of that culture comes a great amount of yummy food and opportunities to meet new people. You’ll also have lots of different places to see.
